Sail All Day. Party All Night.

September in San Francisco, when the great metropolis is so much hotter, so much noisier, so much more watered, so much more crowded, so much more disturbing and distracting in all respects that the emerald city becomes a blessed spot. Half-awake and half-asleep, this idle Sunday morning I meet up with my boarding school roommate who is visiting me from Toronto.

After attending Ridley while his parents were in Saudi Arabia, Douglas went to Princeton for architecture and crew. Since then he has become a money manager–setting up his own hedge fund which he recently sold off for a mighty profit. In semi-retirement at age 42, he is our house guest for the next month and yes, driving my Porsche 911 and catching up on the marvels of the sea, wind, sails and carbon-fiber. Team Emirates-New Zealand is heavily favored at the America's Cup in San Francisco–two more wins away from owning the cup. Today, team USA got in one win and one loss. Americans are favored only when winds are really gusting as they were today. The Kiwis are favored if the winds are slightly milder. All makes for an exciting day along the glorious waterfront.
